nanomag®-D-spio particles with diameters of 20 nm, 50 nm and 100 nm are designed with carboxylic acid groups on the surface for the covalent binding of proteins, antibodies or other molecules, e.g. by carbodiimide chemistry (see technote 200). The nanomag®-D-spio-particles cannot be separated with conventional permanent magnets, but in a high gradient magnetic field. The functionalized nanomag®-D-spio particles are supplied in water without any surfactants.
Antibody conjugated 20 nm nanomag®-D-spio particles were used for labeling of normal or genetically modified cells to deliver these cells to target tissues for treatment of desease or injury (Goldberg et al., 2011).
