Iron oxide particles with COOH groups on the surface consist of monodisperse iron oxide aggregates with a hydrodynamic diameter of about 50 nm. It is mainly magnetite with crystallite size of 10 – 15 nm and possesses nearly no tendency of sedimentation. A high gradient magnetic system is recommended for magnetic separation of the particles.
